Yeller held it’s opening exhibit on the notorious date of Friday the 13th last February. Although black cats didn’t grace the scene, a great turn out and stellar performance from the Mattson 2 made our event a huge success.
Yeller’s first show had work from five neighborhood artists, myself (Lindsay Preston), John Zappas, Joel P West, Steph Walker, and Wes Bruce. For the show, we decided to only create screen printed work — although Wes made some stellar lino cuts. Wrapping around three walls, we created a collaborative mural featuring a distorted Yeller logo. From only one vantage point in the gallery did this logo look in proportion. Surrounding the logo, we each choose a different paint color to draw images, resulting a hodge-podge of things such as geodes, guys in underpants shooting arrows, and humanized ipods. We had over 40 prints on display ranging from $15-$75. We also had a merch table which included some hand made journals, tea towels, and little kitty stuffed dolls. The night was truly capped off by some friends of mine, the Mattson 2, who kept the gallery goers enthralled for upwards of an hour. The Mattson 2 are currently touring with Thomas Campbell and his new film The Present. The event was a great kick off to a project which we hope will continue and add a new spin to the San Diego art scene. Yeller plans to hold more events like this one in the future, in which we will premier more work, and gather creative thinkers in San Diego. This event sounds so cool! Hope to go to one of your future ones. A little escape to San Diego sounds great to me.
